Default engine swap guys? in search of info..

currently i have a 3.5l v6 in my monte. has anyone started off with a 3.5 or 3.9 and put the 5.3SS motor into it? impala/monte? im really considering doing it if possible and selling this one and getting an SS isnt really an option i have WAY to many show modifications done to my monte lol...now its time to make her fast and give her the monte carlo drive its been yearning for.

how much money would i be possibly looking into? does the motor mount right up? what exactly would i need to do the swap?

thanks everyone

The motor should be under $1000. If you can do it yourself you will be saving a lot of money, but shipping the engine if you cannot pick it up yourself and having a shop install it if you don't have the resources/knowledge will also be very expensive. You will need your PCM tuned. I do not own a 7th gen, so I do not know if there is a difference in the trans but it should probably still bolt up.

Tranny is different, as the 4T65E-HD has a transmission mounted starter

I havent found a complete LS4 setup (including intake manifold, headers, crossover pipe) etc for under 1800...Well there is one on ebay that is 1799 but has a cracked intake...also a few for 1200ish minus the exhaust components...

The computer system is different isnt it? Why not just turbo your current motor or do an l32 swap. The 5.3 is kind of a dead end motor, unless you turbo it.

The whole setup is diffrent. For dirrect swap he needs alot of moduals the trans and engine ect.... Alot of work by they time you put money and effort/ time it would be easier to throw a turbo on yours. Get a smaller turbo, intercooler, ect. have a shop make the pipes. Install it and run as much hp as the 5.3. A guy turboed his 3.9 you can do same to a 3.5. If you dont get the DOD tuned out I hear they burn oil and sound funny. My boss had an impalla new with the 5.3 dod and he went through 1 qt a week kept taking it back and they couldnt fix it so he sold it.

Needed to get the 5.3L in and running:

engine, trans, wiring harness, and get the computers flashed at the dealership. Now when it comes down to the lines and hoses im not sure if they hook up like the 3500 does.(power steering, gas, radiator, trans, etc..)

(If I missed anything please let me know)
