RE: code P1404
so is it problem code p1404 or p1071??
i'm confuzed |
RE: code P1404
First couple of things I would check
Air filter Fuel filter It could be that you have an injector running to lean Does the engine run smooth Does it have a miss at idle or does it act like it is not firing on all cylinders It could be that on of the 02 sensors have failed as well (which you would need to find the cause for). What year is your monte and also what engine do you have in her |
RE: code P1404
Are you sure you have the right codes....
Here is a link to DTC's I hope this will help some of you all out http://myweb.accessus.net/~090/dtcobd2.html You all might want to put the above link in your favorites that way you can fall back on it in the future P1404 - Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Closed Position Performance P1071- not sure what this one is (not listed in codes) could you have ment P0171 - Fuel Trim System Lean Bank 1 If so then check my first post out |
RE: code P1404
sorry for the error its code P0171 and i have a 2000 monte carlo ls
|
RE: code P1404
both codes came up P0171 and P1404
|
RE: code P1404
Which code came up first
That is where you want to start at. What engine do you have? |
RE: code P1404
code P0171 came up first and the monte has a 3.4L V-6
|
RE: code P1404
You can have the front 02 sensor going bad
But there can be another problem there..... As I said before Check the air filter and gas filter Also when was the last time that you had a good tune up done to it..... Most causes of 02 failures or cat convertors are not because they failed Its because something else had made them fail. So most likely there is an under laying problem that needs to be solved |
RE: code P1404
For the egr valve
Check all vaccum lines and relays for not allowing the vaccum to pull open the egr valve You can check the egr valve out by: Using a vaccum tester. Apply vac. and see if it holds, if you dont have a vac tester and if you can push in on the valve, disconnect the vac line going into the valve, push in on the valve once it is all the way back place your finger over the vac port and see if it holds back. If not then most likely the valve is bad. |
