Cant find origin of leak. please help.
 

Now my problem, my next issue after finally ikust fixed my headlight alignment is a small oil leak I can't determine where but it looks like there's literally just oil came out the valve cover and found it's way down to the transmission. It's not a bad leak at all. I'll find a drop or two once a week. Amy ideas where to start checking? I may also clean the entire engine and underneath the car with degreaser and a towel and check daily for any new oil. Also someone mentioned it could also just be transmission fluid but when it mixes with grime will look like oil. I'll take pics soon and upload.

I think it might be both. I found a couple of wet spots underneath and for sure it was transmission fluid. I think its the pan gasket for the transmission, an as for oil, I don't think I'm actually leaking any. I took a better look this morning and the oil is only on the side the filler cap is so may e the last person just spilled some oil because I haven't seen an my oil drips. I just bought the car June 21. As for tranny fluid, it may be the pan. I'm going to get under there tomorrow possibly and clean the entire tranny and engine and look for new spots or seaping fluids.

so i detremined the cause, its transmission fluid thats mixing with dirt on the ground, i put down cardboard and its a deep red fluid. any tips or common places it could be?

What year Monte? IDK much about any RWD ones

If it's a FWD;

Check the pan gasket (on the bottom of the trans, obviously)
Check around the axles, where they meet the trans
Check where the trans meets the motor, the torque converter seal could be leaking

It is the rwd 200r4. But a transmission is a transmission. So I'll check where you pointed out tomorrow after work. I'm going to check the pan gasket, check the lines and I'll check up by the torque converter. Any other tips for the rear wheel drive 200r4 that's commonly known for leaking?

It couldn't hurt to check where the dipstick meets the transmission

with that car and year, you're most likely gonna find all sorts of little issues! Just be patient and take care of things as you find them. The cost of caring for an older car can be expensive? I bought a car a long time ago from a guy that did all his own work and I thought "cool, get in and go" but it was a nickel and dime thing? And nowadays things tend to be more expensive, hang in there man. You'll be alot happier after you do the work yourself and you'll have alot to show for your hardwork...:thumbsup:

It's dripping from the center bolt on the cross member. No idea where it's coming from. Deffinately transmission fluid.
