72 Monte purchase

Hello. New to the forum and hopefully soon to be new '72 Monte owner.
I am going to look at the car today and may purchase. Other than any obvious engine / transmission /electrical problems, what Monte specific things should I be looking for?

Thank you in advance.

rust in the quarters, floor pans, and doors. if it has a vinyl top you want to make sure its not crunchy underneath. itll look like popcorn. if it is its probably rusting really hard under the top. this applies to pretty much any 60-late 80s car. if its being sold to you as a car with said big block or small block i would look at the casting numbers. the small blocks can be difficult to tell to the untrained eye. the 400 should have a thicker balancer and 3 freeze plugs(or 2 and raised circle for the 3 on the side of the block) also the transmission if an auto should be a th350 or th400 there pans are a good way to identify them. im unsure whether or not 72 if equipped with the bbc if it automatically comes with the 12 bolt rear, but if it has one its a huge plus. the good thing about the first gen car is that almost everything is being reproduced, and most of the underpinnings are from the chevelle. to my knowledge the chevelle trunk lids even swap over. good luck with the car and post pics if you get it.

Welcome to the site - I love the 72! We had a triple black 72 but sold it.
