2006 Monte Carlo Steering Noise

Hi all:

I have had this concern since I got the car. Basically when I am turning (usually at very low speed acceleration or deceleration and typically in light turns of the wheel or when applying / releasing the breaks), I hear a clunking type noise coming from the front of the vehicle and it can even clicking feeling can be felt in the steering wheel. I originally thought that this may be normal for a front wheel drive car with 'everything happening up front' but I thought I would see what others think about this.

I have come across a couple threads on this issue and I am wondering if this is the problem. (Intermediate Steering Shaft)

Can anyone with a 2006 MC or knowledge on this issue confirm that it is my intermediate steering shaft? I was also told by someone that GM went cheap on these parts for that model year. My cousin has a 06 impala and I have also heard the noise in his car and felt it in the wheel as well.

What are my options to fix this? I do not want to order the same part only to have it continue. Are there any after market options for me? Or has GM had any new suppliers for this part?

please help! : )

Yup I have the same problem !

Go under the steering column, find the silicone boot, pull it back and expose the knuckle of the ISS. Spray white lithium, rotate the steering wheel, spray some more, rotate the other way, spray more.

Repeat every spring and you'll be fine.
