I just called my local Chevy dealership....$700-$800 for the repair and replacement of both upper and lower intake gaskets with the new upgraded aluminum gaskets by GM....Expensive but maybe worth it with the 1 year goodwrench warranty?? Any other opinions would be appreciated!

That's cool, a little less than I expected.

FYI...I called another Chevy dealer and they quoted me a price of $950 plus tax for replacing both the upper and lower intake gaskets..They said it was a very labor intensive job because the parts price was like around $125.00...Guess ill see what my local repair shop would charge me for this same job.

I had mine done last year and it cost me around $450 for both parts and labor at a local garage I go to. I had about $125 in parts and the rest labor. I would shop around because those prices are high. I bought all of the parts myself except for the upper intake gasket and I did get the new aluminum GM lower intake gasket. The part prices included the two new valve cover gaskets because both of mine were leaking. My car is also supercharged.

Thanks for the replies my fellow Monte owners! I went back to my old mechanic who i havent used for a while and he gave me a price of $600 for parts and labor and also recomended a new composit intake (the black plastic intake mounted on the top of the engine). He informed me that there is an upgrade available from GM to replace my plastic one and that i should replace it with the upgraded one since im getting my leaky upper and lower gaskets changed....its easier that way! I wont be going to the Chevy dealer on this repair since they want $950 for just replacing the gaskets and NO plastic intake manifold!

This doesn't sound right to me. I am not over familiar with your engine, but an upgraded OEM intake manifold is a pretty big deal. Has anyone with this engine ever heard of this?

There is an upgraded upper intake manifold for the non-supercharged engines. I think this is for the older Series II and I engines. I would also recommend getting this when you get your repair done. I don't remember the details, but the upper intake ends up burning through in a certain section of the manifold.

After seeing what my mechanic had to go through to replace my upper and lower intake gaskets as well as replace the plastic plenum and the cracked plastic coolant tubes i will never buy another GM again! It was an expensive fix for replacing plastic parts....Im surprised that the 3.8 had plastic parts which break so easily! No wonder 3.8 engine owners are trying to get GM to repair their plastic part engines after they start leaking antifreeze and oil! Learned my lesson on this one! Never again!
