2001 SS surging around 50-55 while accelerating

Seems to only happen on an incline under light acceleration.I have just replaced a bad catalytic converteranda badfuel pressure regulator, but the problem persists. Also the fuel filter was changed out less than 3k. I saw a few posts where others have had this problem and it has gone away with the cat being changed out. I am thinking about plugs and wires & fuel injector cleaner. Has anyone else found a fix? Thanks, Mike

I had the same problem with my '01 SS a few months back, I did a tune up; plug wires, plugs, fuel filter, the usual. I too thought it was mycat, but since I didnt want to drop any more $$$ into it without knowing for sure what it was I just left it, the problem would come and go. Then one dayI found theproblem, it was the tranny, and it blew up. I had it re-built and since then I have not had any surging at all. The guy that re-built it said that my diff went bad and that causes the tranny to not mesh properly sometimes, and whenI brought it in it had completly blown apart. I dont know for sure if that is your problem too, but Ijust thoughtI would share my experience with you and possibly give you some warning. I never had any trouble codes pop up so I really had no clue until the tranny went out.

I get it serviced at every scheduled maintenance point. - I think my last service was at - 60k - I will have to look to be sure though. I know the plugs and wires have never been changed since I have owned it at 37k and I am at 64k.

I hope it's not the tranny, given the history of this car, it may be. You name it, it has gone out except for the engine and tranny themselves. I'm so glad I bought the extended.

Run a light ethenol mix in it like E20. That will help clean up some of the dirt in the engine. If your area doesn't carry E20, try 2 gallons of E85 and 9 gallons of regular gas.

Ethenol will eat the dirt and stuff that gums up fuel injectors and sparkplugs. I just did this trick to my 2000 Blazer over the last 2 weeks and it's starting to get better gas mileage. 14.5 mpg up to 16.1 right now.

I had this problem a few months back and it turned out to be the air sensor that is mounted on top of the air intake between the air filter box and engine. To test the problem you can unplug the sensor and see if the problem goes away. My mechanic told me the sensor fails to send the engine computer data and it tries to adjust causing the surge. He also it wouldn't hurt the car to unplu the senor but would mess up your fuel milage. I ran my car with the senor unplugged for 2 days waiting for the new part and couldn't tell it was unplugged. Hope this helps.

pull hte car back into 3 or 2when you drive, and then try it.. that could help tell you if it's a transmission or not.
