1999 Monte Sunroof Repair
It works now! My sunroof is operational.
This past Friday I spent my lunch hour at the junkyard looking for some wheel studs. (That's another story that I'll post as a brake issue.) Anyway - I spotted a 5th gen Monte with the sunroof option. The sunroof in my 99 has not worked since I bought the car several years ago. Various plastic parts in the track are broken. Anyway, the only tool I was carrying to obtain that wheel stud was a hammer, so I Knew I'd have to return Saturday to get the sunroof. On the way out, I asked "How much for a sunroof frame? Fifty bucks was the answer. Awesome. So, Saturday morning I went back to the junkyard, pulled the donor sunroof. Saturday afternoon I installed it in my car. Thankfully, it works properly. The job really wasn't difficult. Once you remove some trim pieces on the front and rear sides, remove the visors and dome light, and drop the headliner, you have access to the sunroof. There are eight nuts holding it to the roof. Remove those and it's out. I really got lucky! :) http://www.acepickapart.com/images/inventory/L0384.jpg The Donor Vehicle |
Glad you got it fixed. Make sure you keep it cleaned and lubed up with a light white silicone grease.
