Spring 2013 Great Lakes Meet & Greet Options
I have several thoughts on setting up a spring meet and greet. 1st is what was discussed at the Fall MCF M&G were other just had, and that is a duplicate of the past 2 , same place, Bennett Park in Charlotte, MI on May 18, 2013.
But I have what I believe to be a better idea for the SPRING meet. Until 2 years ago, we lived in the SW corner of Michigan, only a few miles away from Watervliet, and there is one of the premier speed parts stores in America, Lane Automotive. Now every Memorial Day weekend on Saturday they have a car show. They usually have about 1200-1500 cars! It's THE best "hot rod" show around these parts, period!
The Michigan Grand Prix Club has a turnout of about 20 cars every year. (They are associated with ZZPerformance.) Now what I'm thinking is that we could meet somewhere close and show up as a group, as they do, and show OUR prominence as well.
The problem? It's Memorial Day weekend. The plus's? MANY!
Here's a couple of links:

This is my Photobucket album of the last show we attended, with RJ and his g/f, and LadyT and myself.

What's the opinion here? I'll give this poll about a month to get a good feel as to what our members want. But this will also give our Chicagoland members a MUCH closer drive, but it's still easy for our Motorcity members, being right on I-94. Same for Indy, etc.

As of right now I don't mind either way. I can say I think the Watervliet Lane Automotive Car Show would be a very cool change up from what was our usual Charlotte Bennett Park location this year. The problem is I usually go up North to the lake Memorial Day weekend but I think I can get away with not doing that for one year. So, I'll be good either way but just fyi, I'm leaning more towards the Lane Automotive Car Show. Watervliet is about a 2 hour drive on I-94 for me so I'd be good with that. What's everyone else thinking?
sounds like great idea to have it at Lane Automotive from my past experience with car shows on holidays it seems that there bigger&better!its early enough to plan for this for those who usually have something planned on memorial day.
Matt, I think it would be possible to do both without any problem. Nothing saying you have to stay all day at Lanes. Besides, by 3, many cars are headed out anyways.
Besides, we would still have the fall M&G in Charlotte.
And if anyone was interested in spending the night, reserve EARLY! Kalamazoo will have rooms, as well as other locations not real close.

Location of Watervliet in Michigan. Actually it's nicely located in the center of the Great Lakes Region for members in Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, and Wisconsin. Hope we draw some from further out as well.

1 hour 10 minutes from Grand Rapids
1 hour 40 minutes from Lansing
1 hour 45 minutes from Chicago
2 hours 30 minutes from Detroit
3 hours 10 minutes from Milwaukee
3 hours 15 minutes from Indianapolis

It sounds like RJ will be up again from Ohio. The last time up, the stayed at the Holiday Inn West in Kalamazoo. I don't know what is available right now, and Kalamazoo is a hike, but it's a nice place, and a good place to get together with lots of decent places to eat not TOO far away.
