2014 Monte Nationals Pictures

Here's my pictures (and one video in post #4) from the 29th Annual Monte Carlo Nationals this past weekend in Decatur, Illinois. Picture heavy, so brace yourself and enjoy one-hundred percent Monte Carlos. My drive down and back both turned out to be about 7 hours one way but it was enjoyable and well worth it. Great weekend - the weather ended up cooperating with us other than some rain that moved through Friday evening. Show day on Saturday was mostly overcast early but cleared up nicely by late morning and was a really nice day. I think there was right around 115 Monte Carlos on the show field this year.
Both Amy and Tadd took home an award in Class 11 "Gold Class Award of Excellence" and I took home an award in Class 9 "04-07 SS". Here's pictures of mine. I have yet to shoot much if any of mine this year so I took this opportunity to shoot quite a bit this weekend. I was up wide awake on Saturday morning at 5am CT and couldn't get back to sleep so I went out to give the car a wash and detail super early - was all set by 9am so I had a few hours to relax and have breakfast before judging began at 11:30am.

As always... Once again your photographic eye has gotten the best of views as well as those 1 of a kind shots that really shows off the cars in the best way possible! I also enjoyed your video... Looks like I missed out on a Great Show..:thumbsdown: I am curious however, I see there were 2 ... 5th Gens... The pace car from Last years and... a single red LS... Did either of them win anything for class 4? Maybe it was good that I wasn't able to attend?. Thanks for sharing the Great Pics and Video! Congrats on winning an award in class 9! also congrats to our Gold Class winners.. Amy and Tadd!:congrats: |

Looked like a good time. I am disappointed I didn't make it. They were calling for hail in my area so I kept the Monte parked. Need to find a place to meet up with some of the Michigan Members in the future.

Question to you guys? I noticed that a lot of you guys had fire extinguisher by the driver side front wheel why are the out of the vehicle?

Rules require a fire extinguisher in plain view to be allowed on the show field "Just in case"
You will not be judged with out one and asked to leave or purchase one |

I guess they had an incident with a fire years ago and don't want to take chances?
Think about it though a bunch of older cars some may be leaking gas or oil a little, minor inconvenience. I got mine for less than 20 bucks |

When I went to the monte nats in York pa, I read about the extinguisher (it was my first and so far only time going). Some people moaned a lot about the extinguisher rule.
Personally, an extinguisher is cheap. I brought one to the show (but don't have one typically with me). Some of the organizers either witnessed or know people that witnessed cars at a show damaged due to 1 car having a fire. Had someone had an extinguisher handy, it would have protected a lot of car damage. I have no problem with a car show wanting participants to have an extinguisher handy. If you have a show field fill of abailable extinguishers, it is cheap protection. I'm surprised the gm nationals don't require one. |

Great job on the photography. Congratulations to the winners and to those who put the event on. There were some really nice cars their. I hope I can make it to Bowling Green next year. It will be my first trip to the nationals.
