Haha I agree, the search engine here is so broken. When I'm trying to find a thread that I had posted in it is easier to just put my name into the search by author field and search that way. Searching by title, topic, subject rarely seems to work.

If you use the advanced feature of Google, you can search any domain and get EXACTLY what you want. We use Dogpile for our MAIN search engine, but use Google for thread searches. Try it.
