wal-mart knock off crap
Their stuff is fine if you're looking at name brand stuff. Sure their generic stuff is junk, but that goes for anything. Just do your research online and find out what you want first, then you can check at Wal-Mart and see if they stock it. Match up model numbers so you know what you're looking at. If it says Pioneer/Kenwood/JVC or whatever, then that's what it is.
My first ever aftermarket headunit was from Wal-Mart because they had the best price after I had done my research on it. It was a Pioneer, it came with everything it would at any other store including the warranty straight from Pioneer, and it had a "function" button...

iv been there and done that with walmart when i first started getting into car audio. they have name brand stuff yes.. but its absolutly bottom of the line. lowest quality pioneer decks and what not. dont get fooled by how cheap dual is they are straight up garbage. my suggestion is online online online. if your looking for a deck or whatnot just do research on what you want. i recommend finding yourself a kenwood with a usb port. they have fantastic quality and are not to expensive. very customizable, sounds good, looks good, good colors, and the fact that you have a usb means you can listen to your ipod while charging it and usb gives very good sound quality
Maybe I'm confused... seems like you answered your own question. I haven't had any more problems buying name brand equipment from Wal-Mart then the name brand equipment I buy elsewhere.
