Swapping OEM head unit for another OEM unit...???

guys trying to figure this out, my 03 MC came with the stock head unit that has only a CD player in it, i'm trying to find out will one from an 04 MC with a cassette player included in it also works, or will i run into any reprogramming / security issues by doing a direct swap?

Mucho gracias for any help amigos.

You're going to need to have it programmed by someone with a Tech II because its going to lock up once you install it.

so who technically has a Tech II programmer? Chevy dealer...who else? how much if you have any idea?

GM Tech II's are typically owned by GM new car dealerships. Sometimes you find niche service industries like air bag repair that has them.

Most people will not have one as those scan tools are super expensive.

And I can confirm, yes, it will need programmed for your car. I find it surprising anyone wants a CD player with tape deck. BTW - If you want to play MP3s off a CD there is a unit GM never offered that will work in the car (I'm running one myself).

Just a side note OP, if you're looking for one with a cassette player because you want to get one of the adapters for an iPod or MP3 player that goes in as a cassette those will not work in these cars. It'll eject it right back out.

wait thats not complety true, i have the stock radio with both the cd player and the cassette player and i use mainly the cassette adapter. it works fine, but i will say this, it did take some time and patience before it finally kept the adapter. it did keep rejecting it but i did have to keep sticking it in there, eventually it just sat there and took it:rotfl:....u get my point tho
