Subwoofer Rattling?
 

Hey guys,

So I've had my Kicker Comp12's for a couple months now and I have been enjoying them quite a bit. However, from the day I installed them with the ZX400.1 amp, there has been a small rattle from one of them. That rattle has increased to the point where it is very noticeable all the time now, and it is very loud. When I put my hand on the sub, it stops rattling. Take it off, back to the rattle. How can I fix this?

I really don't think I've blown the sub. Could it be a wiring problem? I will have to double check the wiring job I did. It is just bare wire to the banana terminals. And the box is vented, or ported, or whatever. Haha it has a slit down the middle.. I know what it's called I just can't remember it haha I haven't kept up on my sub-lingo.

Other than that there isn't much to say. Can anyone help?

if your sub is rattling then it stops when you put your hand on them, then maybe the screws holding the sub in is becoming loose... are you holding the outside where the ring is or the cone area that moves on the sub? If your holding in the cone but not too much pressure on it you might have a blown sub... but if its just the ring where the screws are then the screws aren't holding the sub in place and dont have a grip in the MDF that you are using. Try turning the sub a little to which ever way, and use all the holes on the sub for the screws. might fix the problem, if not ill try to help as much as possible over the forums for you :)

Edit: if you have a ported box, and the port is in the middle, im thinking that section isn't holding together very good, instead of holding the sub to make the rattle go away, try holding the box part, maybe the screws on the box are loose and you need to retighten or add more screws and some silicone or glue, whichever is used on a box so air doesnt escape through the small openings and just the center which is what you want

My alpine type x has the same problem, sounds nasty then with li ght pressure on the cone it sounds perfect. I think the problem with mineis the wires running from the sub terminal to the voice coil, and top it off those wires are woven in to the center piece wich I don't remember the name for it.
