replaceing seats in an '84 monte carlo

Is it possible to use bucket seats from a Grand Prix SE, and install them in my '84 monte carlo......will they work ?.......Ideas ?

Gary:
Hmmmm not sure. I just tore all mine out of my 84, front and back. But replaced with racing seat and Camaro bucket. :)
If the seat bolts don't match, you could always drill new ones and use the Grand Prix seats anyway

awesome...think im gonna give it a try. I'll let you know how it turns out, thx

You may want to soak the seat bolts in the Monte with PB Blaster for a day or so before attempting to remove them. Unfortunately, mine were beyond PB Blaster and I had to cut mine off and install new bolts/supports. Once you have the seats out you may want to inspect the floorboard under the carpet for any spots of rust, etc, and repair/reinforce as necessary.

thanks, definetly will soak the bolts...as for the floors, they are in great shape. This car spent a lot of time in the garage and no rust anywhere !......Any idea what would be involved / needed to make the electric seats work like they should ??

Not really sure about the electric seats. Do the seats from the Grand prix have the power controls on the side of the seat or were they controlled from a switch on the door?? I believe your life will be much easier if the controls are on the side of the seat like my old 96 GP had(no remote switch wiring. If the controls are on the seat, I would imagine it is only a matter of wiring it to a power source with some sort of wiring harness. Making sure it is wired to a source that is only "hot" with the ignition in accessory or run to decrease the possibility of battery drain from being :live" all the time. I am not really an electrical person and there are a lot of people on the forum that know MUCH more about electrical things than I do!!
If your Monte has the bench seat currently, you will most likely also have to install floor bolts for the second seat rail as my bench seat only had two seat rails. One on the drivers side and one on the passenger side. With the buckets, you will need two rails for each side of the car. Hopefully you also got the seat rails as well with the Grand Prix seats as this will make life easier.
Here is a pic of just after I removed the bench seat out of my 84.

Now my application is a bit different than yours. I drag race mine but it is still street legal. I KNEW I was going to put a racing seat in as well as a bucket seat front another vehicle (both manual adjusted). I knew that I would have to drill and secure an entirely new bolt configuration to secure my seats to this car. Below is a picture of how my seats sit in the car now. I definitely know those seat are going NOWHERE. The seats will break before they will EVER come up off their mounting locations!!

my seats look like a bench but its split in the middle. It does have 4 rails, and i did get the Grand Prix rails with the seats so maybe that will make it a little easier. Any idea who i could talk to about the wiring of the seats ? Kind of learning as i go here. Definetly my first time doing this and i don't wanna burst into flames goin' down the road..lol....... I Absolutely love this forum and i appreciate the info and help, you kick ass !! I hope to dive into this ,this weekend and i'll post some before and after pics. Hopefully all will go well....... Again thanks for your help !!
