put a 2000 radio into a 2006?

My wife likes having both CD and tape options for her car. She has a 2006 trailblazer with XM sat radio with CD capability. I have an R.D.S. radio with CD and tape from a 2000 MCSS.

Can I transfer that older radio into the 2006 trailblazer and unlock it? Local dealer said it was a crap shoot as to wheather or not you could unlock it.

Is there any way I can unlock it, or do you have to let the dealer do it?

If this will not work, is there an aftermarket radio that would work?

Thanks,

Larry

My guess is "no" you can't swap those radios.
When I was looking for the MP3 radio for my Monte, I found GM had two different radio lines: Trucks and Cars. I originally had a radio that looked like what I have now, it was from a truck. The GM Tech II could not talk to it to unlock it because the data bus was different. I needed the MP3 radio from a '04-'05 Cavalier/Venture Van (car line). Got that, worked perfectly.

Odds are, if it is possible to get the radio your wife wants, you will probably need to source it from a car not a truck. And you will need someone with a GM Tech II to program it. Again, pending the wiring and data bus are compatible (GM may have changed all that up in that year span).

So the trailblazer is a truck line, right? I would probably need a truck radio?

yeah you HAVE to have a dealer unlock it i had a different impala oem radio installed in my moms impala cause she wanted a cd player. dealer has the keys!

It's anyone with a GM Tech II really that can unlock it (dealer is a sure bet but some service shops have them too).

Do some research on the radios. Perhaps someone has the pin out diagrams, that would be a good starting point to ensure what you want to do might work out.
