Project "SQ Monte"
However, both of those decks are old, discontinued and hard to find in excellent condition. But by simply adding the Imprint system to his deck, it'll do everything the 9887 can do.
yeah I was about to say that looks dif than their usial decks, i never liked the lay out on em, alwaysf elt they were so ugly. i prefer pioneer and eclipse lay outs.
what happened to all the **** he built? lol I dont really like DD either, idk why he'd take that over the ID he had...i really dont understand why he is downgrading. nicer amps though. but that alpine deck, likly has nothing on the pioneer that he had....idk why he would switch to that either. perhaps he just wanted a change? ;lol

As for the sub situation....you're talking about Image Dynamics, he took those out a long time ago and replaced those with a pair of Sundown Audio SA-12's, his current DD 2512 replaced those Sundowns. The ID subs were entry level, stamped basket, low power, SQ subs. He said those were very clean sounding subs that could get low nicely but struggled with bass from about 40Hz and up. Even though that prefab box he had was built to the max range suggested by ID, he thinks the box hindered their ability due to how much power he was giving them. When manufacturer gives you 3 suggested box sizes, the small one is for when you're overpowering the subs, the middle one for when you giving the subs rms, and the larger one for when you're underpowering them. He was overpowering the subs and had the largest box recommended.
Then he upgraded to the Sundowns and Sundown amp, and again, overpowered them and had a box (the same prefab) that was on the larger end of the spectrum. The Sundown subs are Sundowns' entry level subs but are extremely overbuilt and severely underrated. I seen the videos of that setup, that thing slammed! But he said it didn't do so well on the low end, which is why he was going to build the smaller box for them. But then he found a deal on the DD 2512. Digital Designs' 2512 is their mid-level sub that delivers a healthy balance of hard hitting SPL capabilities with the tight, clean sound quality most people don't know DD is capable of. But this time he built a custom box for it. After talking to him for a while, i'm not too sure he's in any rush to go back to a dual sub setup cause his 2512, according to him, is doing work back there and bangs the lows harder and cleaner than any setup he's had in there yet and sounds as good as any of them too, and did I mention that he's giving that beast of a sub twice the amount of power it's rated for?
That being said, he did mention giving the Sundowns another shot to impress by building that custom box for them to see what they can really do. So no downgrade as far as subs are concerned, just constant upgrades. He did downgrade decks though, but considering his Pioneer was over $400 and this deck was half of that (and can do all the Pioneer could do and then some by adding the Imprint system) and would still be less than the Pioneer if he did add the Imprint it seems more like a lateral move than a downgrade especially since the Alpine gives him a digital connection to his iPod in stock form when the Pioneer had just an analog connection in stock form which is far inferior sound quality wise....in order to get a digital connection you would have to buy a $50 interface module....which would push the total cost of the Pioneer deck to nearly $500. The 117 + Imprint = just over $400.....I think he did his homework and made a very good decision here.
Yep and yep

I'm assuming you're talking about the amp rack....his experiment didn't quite work out. He made it out of 3/8" particle board, figured the blocks he added to the back side of it would give it plenty strength but it ended up bowing in the middle. He said it wasn't in any danger of breaking but the sight of the bow in the middle irked him so he ended up ripping it out when he sold his old amps. He said that was his first time designing such a rack and wasn't too happy with it anyway due to the subpar design but he learned from it so the next one will be much better. He can't do the same type of thing with his current amps cause they are too long so he's trying to settle on a design that will be in the trunk....stay tuned for that.

this HE said thing is pretty obviouse to me who you are.
the sundown or a top end ID would of pissed all over any DD IMO, the DD is more SPL oriented, and in fact i know allot of SQ guys hate people who try to run them as SQ subs.
your logic of being half the price goes out the window when your talking about the imprint system, but it is a good deck, and with the new 701 on the way, idk what their calling it, but its compition with the ms-8. they had allota catch up to do, idk why these car audio guys discontinue **** before they have **** to replace it...just guess the demand at the end of the process is so low its not productive to build them anymore

I'm lost
What are you trying to say, that i'm a fanboy or a nuthugger? I can't help I like what the guy did with his setup. You have your opinion, I have mine, he has his, I think I'll just leave it at that.
Like I posted, with the Imprint system his total cost would be just over $400, compared to just shy of $500 if he added the iPod module to that Pioneer, and the Alpine would do everything that Pioneer could do so he'd still come out on top in that deal. Aside from personal opinion, that's no downgrade. Alpine's new processor is rumored to be a MS-8/360.2 killer....sounds good but we'll see about that. That MS-8 is one hell of a processor!

but you dont seem to talk like him now that i read some more of your posts, so accusation pulled.

I went to the doctor and they called for me. When I got back there, they thought I was someone else. Turned out I was...
Looks like Rich put up a new video of his new setup, pretty impressive flex going on for having just one 12" sub in the trunk!
