My free system
I just scored two free subs and a free amplifier today. The subs are some 10" off brand (LA Sound?) and the amplifier is an old school Phoenix Gold.

I dont think they will be anything incredibly powerful but they should do the job I think. Just gotta make a box now. |
awesome, nothing better than free stuff!
|
The price was right for sure. My buddy offered me some subs in a box with an amp and I turned it down. Now I want one and he got rid of it already.:(
|
Can't go wrong with free lol & Lou I'll sell u my subs

Hi `Matt, keep us updated on install & how it sounds. Pictures would be a plus +++4-Sure  Oh, what are you going to make your box out of ? Good Luck & I hope it's a E.Z. `Mod  |
FREE
Now that's one of those 4 letter words anyone can appreciate. ;) Good score! |
Well here is what $21 and an afternoon got me. Should but up and running tomorrow.
http://i204.photobucket.com/albums/b...0/100_1030.jpg Will probably cover it another time but dont feel like doing it this weekend. |
What'd you have in mind for covering it with?
|
Something similar to the liner in my trunk. If I cant find anything then probably just black felt or something.
|
Well I got everything hooked up. The good news is everything powers up and works. The bad news is that its not very powerfull. Doesnt hit very hard at all. Just a question about tuning, I want to set the crossover to high pass and then adjust it to keep the high frequency signal out correct? Or am I doing it backwards?
|
i usually put my crossover right in the middle. i havnt found a spot i like yet. but another thing. those subwoofers are 100 watts MAX which means they are probably 50watts RMS. thats not much. how many watts is that amp?
|
Yeah I saw they werent too powerful. The amp is only 120 watts max bridged. I think Im going to just run these for a bit and find something more powerfull. Since all the wiring and the box is made, all Ill have to do its remove the subs and amp and replace them. The hard work is done at least. I guess you get what you pay for lol.

You need to put the amp on low pass to run subs, that may be some of it. But ya the subs are probably more like 30 to 40 rms, my speakers are more than that lol. The 3.5" dash speakers I just got are 35rms LOL
|
Ah thank you Jaws. I switched the crossover to low pass and now it hits pretty nicely.
|
Can't complain since it was free!!! Nice work on the box though :) Why ported?
|
I just made a copy of what I saw for sale on line. No idea about box design really but I am good at making stuff lol.
|
That's a nice looking box you made! Good job! :D

Hi Mod `Matt, it's great that you have the talents to be able to create and design your own sound system...It's looks great & I will be checking back 4 updates...Your father would be `proud : ) U did learn from the Master : ) Hope U R also great @ mak'in $'s to continue with all your Mod's & projects :confused::)~>:rotfl: Keep us updated & post more pic's  |
Will still probably need to upgrade to something more powerful in the future. It does hit but it leaves alot to be desired. Cant get the bass out of it I want without it sounding distorted. Oh well sonicelectronix has some good deals on subs and amps. Maybe I can find a deal over the holidays. We'll see.

also what must be considered is ones detection of output varys from perosn to person, one might here a bass hit and say "thats punchy" another might say that same note out of that same setup is "wompy" or "loose" learning how to digest sound, and descibe it is a KEY to learning how to pick gear, becuase if you can't understand and visulize what a person is telling youa bout a piece of equitment, you're not gonna know how to pick the gear acuratley for your needs. another big consideration to be taken is the box. a properly build box can easily make a 80$ sub sound as good as a 300$ sub. keep all of these in mind when picking your gear and you can't go wrong |
Ive been doing some adjusting/tuning between my stereo and the two amps to even out the power and sound. I am slowly getting it all to sound better but I havent had much time to sit and mess with it. I think I can get it to a point thats good enough to make me happy, I just have to play with it some more.
