lights behind climate controls???
 

Hey all

Ok, I know the lights behind the dash are "solder in" types of lights...luckily those are all good and working. Radio too. But below the radio where the temp controls are...the right side controls are all lit up, but everything from the divided temp control slides to the left towards the driver are OUT....are these replaceable lamps behind the temp controls?? I'd like to replace them if they are.

They are solder in bulbs as well, called "unserviceable" by GM. You can usually find replacements of the whole unit for cheap if you want, or you'll have to crack it open, and hit each bulb with a soldering iron. Although for that much to be out, it might be a different issue than just a bulb out.

They're also soldered in but they're a crap ton easier (in my opinion) to fix just because I think it's easier to get the cover off than it is the radio cover.

Just remember to go slow when you're fixing them and go easy on the heat. When you put the solder gun on the circuit board it's easy to fry the whole thing (I did!!!!). If you have a pic-a-part type place close I'd go jack one out of a donor car to practice on.

And just a tip, I'm sure everyone does it different. After I melted the dead light off the board the solder closed back over. I stuck a sewing needle on a drill to drill out a tiny hole for the new light. Then all I had to was reheat the existing solder and it melted over the new light probes. It also let me keep my very unsteady hands and possibly large amounts of solder off the board.

thanks guys..I was searching them on Ebay..and I can find complete "swap out" temp controls of this exact type for about $35.00...so think I'll just order a complete working one, and pull the old out, and put in the new. Easy Peazy.
