just went to go install the new speakers nd i have a question..do i need to use the mounting brackets? crutchfield sent me universal ones thats u need to legit cut and snap off tabs so they fit and it doesnt even look like they will! if you have installed fron speakers here did ya just screw the new speakers into the exsising hole? mayb just made ur own screw holes on the stock bracket?

I just screwed mine into the existing mouting bracket, works fine.

i did the same, but i am going to use some modeling clay to fill in the gaps between the bracket and the speaker to hopefully make some better sound.

short answer, yes you can use the stock baffle. the smarter solution is to pick the proper equipment for your car before hand.

easy way out, yet it is still getting it done correctly, sealing the speaker off, right?

hi everyone. I have an older 5.25 component set, NIB, that I want to drop in. My bigger question is I have seen both 5.25 & 6.5 sets available, what is in the door? Also I haven't pulled off the cover yet, mostly its to cold outside and I don't wanna break any tabs. It looks like from the pic of the custom work noted earlier in the thread that it is ready for the component set from factory.

Exactly! Just cause there's another option that's harder to accomplish doesn't make it any better of an option.

thanks for verifying, thats what i thought, do you know where to get modeling clay at?

Any arts and crafts store should have it, out here we have Michaels. Make sure you get non-hardening clay
