How to turn dome/interior lights off!
hey i was wondering if any of you would know how to have the dome / interior lights stay off when the doors are open. i want to be able to have my interior led kit on without the stock lights being on, but i want to keep my stock lights installed and working. i would appreciate any help you guys have

I don't think we can do that on 6th gens :p
Not that I know of at least lol |
Your best bet would probly be to install a toggle somewhere...maybe wire up two different ones for interior (dome override) and another for your lights

Could always just pull the bulb

Yeah, there's no stock option for this, I know in my Silverado there's a dimmer switch (like in most cars) but as far as lights go we got very basic functions.

yeah i dont think they ever turn off if the door is open for a long period of time either. what is the purpose of wanting to do this? you could always just roll down the windows and shut the door.

the only way to do it is pull the bulbs, but he mentioned that he wants to keep em installed and workin :p
and they do go off after a while of having the door open ;) i think the car has to be off tho :o |
Ok there are two possible ways the interior lights are run.
a) the lights are run with positive power at all times and when the door is open it closes the circuit and connects the ground and the lights go on. b) the door switch tells the BCM (body control module) that the door is open and it sends power to the interior lights. So, take a volt meter and check if power is going to the bulb when the door is shut. if there is then option A is how it is run. If the light doesn't have power then chances are option B is how it is run. either way the best way to do what you want is to install a switch to break the flow of power. i don't know how the interior light looks like, but on my 5th gen, there is space to drill a hole and install a push on/off switch in the housing of the dome light. hope this helps. |
