Help changing Evaporator Core

I'm wondering if anyone has changed the Evaporator Core on a 2000+ Monte?? I've heard "rumor" it's not a big deal, allegedly drops out the bottom of the dash. I looked at the shop book and it looks like it involves ripping the ENTIRE dash out of the car!!!

So, I'm wondering, has anyone changed one? How did they do it, and do they have any pics from the job??

Thanks!

You don't need to tear the dash apart, but (according to my manual) you do need to remove both lower dash panels, the heater duct and the heater core cover. Then remove the coolant pipe clamps, the coolant pipes, the heater core and finally the evaporator core. Before any of this is done you need to drain the coolant, remove the heater hoses, discharge the a/c system and disconnect the a/c lines underhood. It definitely sounds like this job could be a real pain in the neck...literally.

I have the lower hush panels off and was looking up under the dash from the driver and passenger side. I cannot figure out where to go with this mess. Perhaps I need to remove a couple more panels and I might be able to see what is going on....

Well, I said screw it and began ripping apart the dash. What a pain in the butt. This is one of few jobs where I am really beginning to wonder if I should have paid someone to do it.

Below are pics of my progress today....
