Console Removal Question

After looking longingly at the console of an Impala LTZ, and resting my forearm on my barely-padded '00 style armrest, and hearing my GF complain how plain and cheap the rest of the console is, I've decided there is one visible, non-removable mod I'm actually going to do. It looks like the going price at the boneyards is $75.

Has anyone else removed their console for any reason? How hard is it? Are there videos to help?

I have a 2005 Impala so it should be similar as well as removing the console out of all of my other cars for cleaning purposes. It's always been fairly straight forward just be careful not to pull too hard on any of the plastics. There is probably only 2 13mm or 10mm holding it down to the floor and some clips holding it to the dash.

Here's a quick vid I found on youtube:

I'd imagine the bolts for the rest of the center console will become apparent after that top portion is removed.

Edit: I saw it shows you have a 07 under your name, you refer to a 2000, and your name suggests 1996. I'm confused to the year you're looking for. Also I looked at google for 06 MC interior and the console looks similar to the 2000-2005. I'd imagine it would be removed in a similar fashion.

My '96 went to the junkyard in 2005. I just haven't bothered to change my screenname.

As you see in my garage, I own an '07, and that is the console I'll need to remove. I refer to 2000 in the OP because the console was revised forward of the cupholder in '06, which means the armrest is exactly the same as in 2000. The Impala armrest, OTOH, is a nice modern design with substantial padding.

And since the '07 Monte console does not, in any way, resemble the 05 Impala console--anyone else?

Open the armrest. Pull straight up on the cupholders to remove them - mine snaps out and back in with no screws. Gives some access to look in and around for some fasteners. I've had the seat out and don't remember seeing any covered screws where the seats are.

I'll agree. The center console in my 05 Impala is lame and squeeky. I did cover the lid with a marine vinyl and it came out nicely. I didn't care too much for adding padding to it but it wouldn't have been hard to add that.
