Question Back-up camera?

Hi folks, I was thinking of having a back-up cam installed on my 2001 MOC SS. It is virtually the only feature on "modern" cars that I like and miss.
I was just thinking of a simple license-plate type camera and a small-ish screen. Anybody have any recommendations? The guy who is doing the paint work on my car would install it.

I should mention also that the radio system on it is messed up -- no operating radio, but it has a working cassette player and a semi-working DVD player. The box in the trunk is messed up and the previous owner had wired the speakers in directly, or something. (I mention this because i see that some people had replaced the radio system with a radio/back-up cam system and seemed to have all kinds of problems.) I was thinking of having the system from the '04 moved over, but now since i might have the '04 patched up for a winter car, I'd hate to do that.

Peak wireless backup camera

Vantop dash cam mirror with backup cam. Vantop dash cam mirror with backup cam.

Few more options out there. I run the mirror kind plus an android head unit and both have backup gamer function.

Hi Steelbizkit,
I don't understand how that Vantop one works. Does it function as an actual mirror? Do you find the mirror kind of large and in the way? Is the camera in the mirror itself?

It works as a actual mirror and front camera is mounted in mirror, rear / backup cam is mounted pin rear glass or bumper. Not sure how well catnip one works it was just first one on Amazon list.

My exact mirror My exact mirror
isn't being produced any more.

dont have clearance issues and can actually see full c-pillar to c-pillar across with it.

Hey, thanks for the video! That's a fancy one. Does it connect to your radio? looks a little too complicated for me... but it has made me take another look at the mirror-mounted ones. The car guy had one of those at hand -- I'll call him Monday and ask some questions.

I realize I already have a larger mirror because it had the On-Star --? Which I know nothing about, but i'm sure it wouldn't work due to the radio issues.

Wolfbox g840 is amazing for the price. Sony sensors front and back. 1080p front and back. Amazing night vision. Auto parking mode when reversing. Huge screen makes it easy to see when reversing.

Hi there Gotgreen! you car is very shiny. Is that a wrap?
Thanks for your response to my question. I have been off for a while.

How are you liking this backup cam?
Does this strap onto the current mirror or replace it? My current mirror is already large, about 11" and I wonder if that would interfere with the forward camera.
Did you get the hardwire kit and connect it directly to the fusebox? Or is it plugged into the cig. lighter?
Pardon me if I sound like I don't know what I'm talking about... I'm trying.
Did you attach the camera on the back window?
Did you need to buy additional cable?
About how long did it take to install?

Thanks for any insight you can give.

that's my friends...and it's paint.

I love it. It straps to the current mirror. The camera is on the left of the unit and goes past the stock mirror. I found a cigarette plug at the junk yard and hard wired it with a relay connected to an ignition switched wire. I made a bracket because the one I bought used did not have the bracket, but yes it is inside the window for a better top view than the license plate area would provide. The included cable was long enough, but they make an extension if needed. 1-2 hours to install.

It's not even direct center but you can move and rotate it however you like. It's wide angle anyway. So it shouldn't be an issue.
