AMP won't turn on

Hi everyone,

I've been trying to install a new sound system into my 2000 Monte Carlo SS. This is the first time I've done it alone. I changed out the head unit and have a 4 channel amp connected to it.
When I turned on the head unit there are no sounds coming from the speaker so when I checked the amp the power light shows that it's not powering on.
I have the remote wire connected to the remote wire on the wire harness of the head unit. I'm stuck here

Thanks

try connecting a small wire from the power wire to the remote just so see if the amp will turn on, so in other words power the remote wire from the power wire, this will turn the amp on, if it doesn't turn on then check the fuse or else there may be some internal issues

yeah, these are very common things. they still happen when you've done 20 installs, 40 installs, or 2 installs. I did it on my recent deck, i wired the harness on a bench, so the wire for the remote wite was crimped a second time and i forgot to crimp it once i put the harness in :( noob.

Well I found out what was wrong....
When I said the remote wire was connected to the harness I actually had it connected to the stock one in the trunk since the remote wire on the headunit's harness was connected to the stock harness. I ended up connecting it directly to the wire on the headunit and now it works. You learn a lot when you do these things on your own and oh ya with the help of you guys on here also ;)

Trewyn got it....jumping the power wire to the remote terminal will tell you if the amp isnt coming on due to the remote wire not sending power or if theres a problem with the amp. But before you do that you need to make sure you have good voltage at the amp by taking a reading at the power and ground terminals. If you arent getting voltage there you'd need to handle that first. If you do get voltage there then do the jumper trick. If the amp still doesnt turn on, its an amp issue. If it does turn on, its a remote wire issue. If thats the case, simply run a remote wire from the cig/aux fuse on the driver side fuse box, mission accomplished.
