Amp Overheat Fix

5 Attachment(s)
I got bored today and decided to find a way to get my amp to stop overheating on my ride to and from work. About 3/4 of the way to work EVERY morning my amp cuts off (Cheap Sony Xplod 1000W) and if you touch it you would get burned... I took off the back panel (voids warranty idc :rotfl:) and put a metal grill thingy to attract the heat and cut a square in the center and put some insulation over it to keep dust from getting in the amp. I sealed every corner and loose end of the insulation with sealant. I dug around in my old electronics box and found my old original xbox, I took out the fan and attached it the the open square that I cut in the insulation and a perfect fit. I put sealant around the fan and the insulation so hold it and it is holding pefectly! I attached the ground wire from the fan to the ground contact on the amp, and the power wire from the fan to the remote contact of the amp. Every time I turn the car on the starts up just like the amplifier. The fan moves a good amount of air and I drove for 4 hours straight and no hot air was coming out of it at all!!! I feel proud of myself :). I still have some insulation left and sealant, idk what Im gonna do next :p. I used the painting tape to temporarily hold it until I went to home depot to get some longer screws to mount it...

i dont know if its your amp itself acting up, but i have seen amps over heat by running too small of a power wire to them. it causes the amp to "work harder" being as it cant get the supply of power it needs fast enough

The power wire is huge! It doesnt even get close to getting hot now and doesnt shut off.

What is the need for the insulation and sealing the amp?
