Aftermarket Radio Install
 

Hello, I'm new and don't know how many people still use this site, but I'd love some help. My 2002 Monte Carlo SS now has a locked radio. I think it's a BCM glitch and I do not think going to the dealer is going to be worth whatever they charge me. I want to install a typical aftermarket radio, basic bluetooth, AM/FM, AUX radio that is around 7" X 2". I have found the bracket to fit the smaller radio, but the wiring is what concerns me. I see that with a "normal" harness I cannot use onstar and will not hear door chimes or turn signals. This does not concern me too much. The Onstar is disconnected in the car, I do not wish to use it. The door chimes are not super important to me, but I would like to know what I need to make the radio wire up to the speakers. I will link a Wal-Mart product I found and if anyone can tell me if it would fit an aftermarket radio and wire to the speakers, I'd appreciate it so much! Thanks for reading.

Or, you could just get an unlocked OEM radio from eBay, many of which have aux jacks retrofitted. One of the members here had an aftermarket radio installed on a Monte just like yours, and his headlights stopped working. Headlights are more important than Bluetooth.

Thanks for responding. My only problem with getting a VIN cleared OEM radio is the price. If his headlights stopped working it makes me think the wiring is a lot more then just the radio, but I'm not sure how that could be.

I always send people to crutchfield when looking at audio equipment. They are spot on with what works, and keep what features, etc.

That kit would work if you don' t have Onstar, Also isn' t designed to work with the Bose systems. However that don' t stop many.

So if your not worried about the chimes and Onstar then your ok.

There are some that don't like the AMP in the car if they install a good brand Headunit they can power the speakers without the AMP in place.

A local Mobile Audio store around here sells that harness or one like it for 20 without the Mounting kit so I would say that is a good deal.

Also with the kit from the Local shop that comes with the Red wire. That you would need to wire up because the ACC is not present on the lower end harness. One the more costly ones that are like 40 to 160 depending on what your harness would keep there is no extra wire for the ACC because they convert the RAP supported one at the OEM radio.

Other then that it should be wire for wire on your radios harness to That one. Then route the Red wire for the ACC. mount the Mounting hardware, plug in the wires to the factory wiring and Enjoy your tunes.

Any decent aftermarket head unit is going to be far more than $95. The ones with the aux input added are, sadly, more expensive.
