25% or 35%?
Hey guys I need your opinion!
I want to tint my 2000 SS either 25 or 35%. The legal limit here (in Illinois) is 35%. I just wanted to know, since I don't know really anything about tint except that the percentage is how much sunlight is allowed in, if 25% would be that much more noticeable by the police compared to 35%? Would it turn their heads or would they just kind of glance and look away?
Like on a scale of 1 - 10, 1 being really noticeable and 10 being not at all, how noticeable would it be for the police?
Oh! My Monte is white. I don't know if that will affect the odds or not. :p
Thanks!

I'm in NJ. You can't tint your door windows at all Legally! I have 5% on the back window and sides and 35% on the door. It's only a problem when you go to the State inspection. They fail you right away. So I go to Joe's Emotion Specialties. He doesn't care if all your windows are painted flat black. Just that it passes Emotions. I had a Z24 Cavalier with 20% all around. Got too much light from the cars behind me and on dark corners I couldn't see curbs. So I hit them A Lot. Lol Anywho, with 5% on the back and sides, the 35% looks like it's 20% especially with black interior. You pretty much have to judge by your area. Here the cops don't care! It's the state that says "You Can't Tint" just like it's illegal to Own a Radar Detector in NJ, but you can buy one at any Walmart or Auto Parts store thru out the state? What planet does that make sense on?

Lighter tint will tend to look darker on a lighter car but it also depends highly on the lighting outside. Obviously the tint looks darker with less lighting but it can sometimes look dark in high sunlight situations. With 18% on my 06, you can still see through somewhat but in other lighting situations I sometimes can't see in at all. With 20% on my 03, the yellow seemed to make for a higher contrast so the tint sometimes looked darker. I was stopped three times in my 03 (two county sheriff and one MI state) but have not been bothered in my 06 *knock on wood*. However, I don't drive my 06 nearly as much as I drove my 03 when I had that car.
Here's pics of mine as an example:
^ 18% on my 2006.
^ 20% on my 2003.

Thanks for all your input guys! I'm not too worried about the law being on me here, I just wanted some opinions and that's what I got!
And does anyone have any suggestions on what percentage I should go with? I'm an UNBELIEVABLY indecisive person which really sucks for things like this!
Cops around here, I've been told, don't even have an issued way to measure tint so I want to go below the limit (35%) but not really dark either!

I'm pretty sure both shops I've gone to had four shades of your standard smoke film: 5%, 20%, 35%, and 50%. Obviously that varies with the film that the shop uses, like when I had the 06 done I went with 18% because that's what that particular shop's second darkest film was. I'd say research and go to a few shops to see what film/percentages they carry. Also, it always helps to ask friends or others around your area when choosing a shop.
