I'm going to say that's false. My parent's do not have the "standard" premium sound system in their 06 SS. They kept the basic 6 speaker set-up because my Mom could care less about the way her radio sounds haha

No, you DO NOT need to replace your stock speakers, that is a straight up lie! I have the stock deck (I would hate to put an aftermarket deck, and loose the stock look). I have all 6 stock speakers. All I had done was an after market amp and sub added to my factory sterio. Once you have an aftermarket amp and get the bass going through the sub, and crank up the treb, the factory sterio/ speakers sound great. I can now put my volume between 20 and 25 for CD's and it is more than loud enough for me. Volume 28-30 is pretty damn loud for radio.

I will say that if you want to go past volume 35-37, the stock speaker will start to distort. But with the amp and sub, its much louder at lower volumes, so I NEVER find the need or want to go past volume 32-34 at the most, but rarely even listen to it that loud. If you really want to go way high in volume then you probably should put in aftermarket speakers, but if I was you, try it with just the sub and amp, and factory speakers, see if you like it. If you don't, you can always go with aftermarket speakers later. But like i've said, I found that the sub and amp really brought the best out of the factory set up, and was all I needed.

If your parents do not have the premium sound system (which may be optional),, than that means you most likely have the same stereo system that we have.

Oh, ok, news to me! Then the premium sound must be optional on all models. But if Rick has the amp, and 6 disc changer, he for sure has the premium sound OPTION

Yea, put your probably sounds pretty good, i'm assuming that you have a stock amp beings you have the SS!?

I know the stock 6 speaker sound sytem in the Bonneville sounds damn good, much better than my Monte's completly plain stock sound was.

If you're going to run your stock speakers through the aftermarket amp, make sure you get an amp that's matched to them. In other words, don't get a 150 watt/channel amp for your stock speakers or they will go bye-bye! A good, low wattage (30-40 watts/ch) amp will give you better performance and won't blow your stock speakers to smithereens. Also, match the amp's impedance matches your stock speaker's impedance. There's an aftermarket adapter that aids you in connecting an aftermarket amp to the factory radio.

Meh, if I turn the treble down and the bass at zero it sounds decent.

I just don't want to put money into the sound yet haha. It can ALWAYS sound better.

our 06 montes(lt and ls) have the same 4(four) speakers. the ss and the ltz came with the 6 speakers bose setup. on the ltz's and ss came with the premium sound package so thats why they have an amp. i thought we went through this before?! we dont have an amp because we have 4 speakers. mamonte, where are your other 2 speakers to get 6 speakers?
