Question Why Does My Car Backfire?

Wondering why my monte backfires every now and then? Usually when i floor it and let go at any rpm higher than 3. Also when i race, it sounds way loud like a ricer almost at like 2.5 rpms lol wondering why? could that just be the kind of mufflers i have maybe?

1. Why are you racing a car that you think backfires that you know nothing about?

2. What kind of mufflers do you have? Depending on the kind, it is not a backfire, it is cackling under deceleration. That would also be the reason it sounds like a ricer.

Well I would assume if it is backfiring it isn't running right, and what is the point of racing a broken car?

And that is more then likely the reason. If you want to see if it is just cackling, put the gear selector in 1. Then floor it, once the rpm hits 5.5 let off and see if it backfires. Then it is just your muffler.

Also, when you try this out, record it for us and try it 1 or 2 times, maybe if we can hear it we can help you more.

i never really thought a backfire was a negative thing. I mean i hear wrx's and srt4's do it all the time out here and those guys seem to be running perfectly fine. Im sure my car is not broken.

But yes i've tried that and it still backfires. Definetly not crackling tho but i will post a vid when i get a chance. roads here are pretty bad right now so i wont try it soon

Deceleration fuel cut off, that's the excess fuel being burnt off in your hot exhaust

You also might be running a little rich

Flowtech?

Is that 1 of those chrome looking garbage can size muffler thingys?
That sounds like someones passing gas?

otherwise I have no clue what a flowtech muffler does...(Never heard of it)

You do not need to use 1 or 2 on the gear shift, you will get zero gains from it and you will destroy your transmission.
