Roller rocker is just another term for lifter. Same thing, different name.. I think GM actually calls them a Roller-lifter..

Uuuum, I've helped friendsrebuild small blocks and I thought the rocker arm was a totally different item than the lifter whidh was a straight rod that pushed the rocker arm or visa vers. Are you sure or am I wrong? I am not a mechanic.

Oh I see from Space's diagram, overhead cam's do not use lifters persay.

Thats right.. Vehicles with overhead cams dont need pushrods as the cam is chain or belt driven.

Now for our engines which are the "old world" that have the cam in the block, they require pushrods to push the roller rocker down onto the valve, and open the ports and yadda yadda.

Our engine Is probably closer to Space's first pic.

And congrats on putting the uberluxury truck where it belongs. In the slow lane. Ha!

Now the question is, how do we mod these technologies to give us a bit more hp? Really the 5.3 is pushing 303 hp. The LZ9 is 240ish? and the Lz4 is 214. Really.. for a lz9 to compete with a LZ4, you only need 26 more hp. And the Lz9 is only 40 hp away from what gm "claims" is the maximum the 4t65 can handle without grenading. (Gm always seems to underestimate)

I dont think it will be that hard for the people to eek out 26 more HP. Apparently adding in K&N's intake system adds 13.48 HP at the wheels, If used for the 5.3L so.. I figure a good, efficient exhaust, and some minor tuningwould be all thats needed to get there.

Really I think were only scratching the surface on the engines, and with VVT in them, I can only dream of what a turbo or a supercharger could do.. *evil laughter*

I think first someone needs to bite the bullet, and get one of the powertuners that'll hook up to this car. First we need to find out how badly a pro level intake is gonna modify the torque curve, If it's that bad we'll need to shorten or lenthen the intake tract, and possibly modify the RPM that the Variable Intake thing activates. GM can do that with the car before they make it, because they know how it all works. Like with the GTP with the 270 horse? actually rite now Pontiac is reporting the 07's come with the 3.5 at like 220, the 3.9 at 241, and the 3.6 a 252 (DOHC) Is the 3.6 a naturally balanced 60 degree engine?

Interesting.... more research Space-man! (j/k, I'm on it)

Id love to hunt one down or just get a hold of the .bin files from the PCM. Just to see how much restriction GM put on these engines in the efforts of fuel economy and emissions. I can pretty much guaruntee that these engines will happily produce more power with the sacrifice of 3-4 MPG.

Geeezus.. The 3.6L in the GMC acadia is apparently making 275hp.. Its a completely different engine.. It has a variable intake... VVT... Dual spray injectors? Forged Aluminum Pistons? Thats all from GM's media center.. Weird engine indeed..

I saw the the 3.6 in the CTS is making 260 hp. Gonna do more research and if it is VVT.
