Swapping Exhaust with a GP GT?

Hey guys, been a while since I have been on here. Anyways, my buddy Dan has a 99 Grand Prix GT that he put a catback Magnaflow system on a year or so ago. Anyways he is selling the car and offered to swap me for my stock system for free if I just pay to have it swapped since he would rather I have it than some random person. Will this swap directly over? I assumed the 3800's used the same catback systems...

it won't swap right over, the routing under the car isn't the same, some parts can be used tho like the ypipe and such or mufflers and tips.

Okay, so you think if I had it cut off right before the Y-Pipe, it would all workout from there back? What would I expect for removal and installation on both cars ya think?

Why wouldn't it fit? The most that might happen is that an extra hanger might have to be welded to the system.

And if it's a Magnaflow is it the GMPP cat-back???

I believe so - I thought it would swap right over no issues... :/

I know there is a 1 hanger difference in the cars, which is why when you buy a cat-back that fits all the w-bodies, there could be one "extra" one.

But really, it will swap over without difficulty. Even if they need to add that hanger it would take about 5 minutes

What do you think something like this would cost to have done? I would do it but the mufflers are welded on his car to a rod up to the frame I think...

There should be little rubber hangers attached to that rod, those just slide off no problem, the only bolts should be at the end of the downpipe.

I think there is a single rod coming down and it is welded to the muffler or the pipe itself, but I cannot remember for sure...

There should be a frame hook, and a hook on the exhaust and in between the 2 are a rubber piece. This allows the exhaust to move.

If it doesn't? I am pretty much screwed huh...

Honestly couldn't tell you without seeing. I don't see why they couldn't be cut.

I'm planning to take the rusted out catback off my Grand Prix and put on the stock catback from my Monte this weekend. From looking underneath everything looked ok. The only concern I had was that the tail pipes might not be the same length.

Finished swapping the exhaust from my Monte on to my Grand Prix and it fits perfectly. The tips stick out a little and look silly but it fits and sounds much better now.

Good to hear! The free exhaust fell through. His dad gave away the car before I could do it...guess i might replace the mufflers after winter...
