Stainless mufflers?
Hello guys. Love the forum! My 2001 MC SS is still looking good except for the mufflers and tips. I want to replace them with stainless or aluminized mufflers and polished stainless tips. I would like a little more low rumble from the 3800 v6 but do not want a loud cracking exhaust. What mufflers do you guys recomend? I plan to add a new air intake system so it can breathe better and have read that actually affects exhaust tone. Don't know if that's true. Also, how does the resonator help? Should I get rid of it?
Thanks |
Some people prefer removing the resonator and putting just mufflers on.
I run the GMPP Cat-Back, it's discontinued but it's Magnaflow. Shortened the resonator down to 18", and 2 magnaflow mufflers + 2 4" tips. All 304SS and the piping is 409SS |
Welcome to the MCF... I run Magnaflow front to back... Hi-performance Cat (resonator delete) into stainless steel mufflers with stainless steel 4" tips... Not too loud, low rumble and a little rasp (can't help that in our engines)... I have been running this set-up for 5 yrs now and is still like new... Hope this helps,:)

Is there a certain size exhaust for these cars or no? I sounds like a novice lol

Believe our stock SS pipes are 2 1/2" or 2 1/4"? Can't remember for sure. Perhaps another member can confirm. :)

I think 2000-2005 SSs have 2.25 inch pipe. I had the SLP cat back system on my 05SS and it was 2.5" pipe - no resonator and stainless steel.

I'm not sure how it is on the 2000-2005 but I'm pretty sure on the 2006-2007 it's 2 1/2 inch pipe up to the cat and then after the cat the pipe is 2 1/4
