Hey all I am posting my reply here because I can't get my post up in the other section for intakes, Server problems I guess.
Original Question's-
was the 1st one you put in a cheap ebay one? Basically would the insulation box be necessary if you didnt have a cheap one is what im windering...i have the same 06 3.9L and I wanna get a cold air intake

looking at KN's theirs seems to have a heat shield on it already <http://www.knfilters.com/search/appsearch.aspx> u gotta look at the 5.3L version, then read the general description and it says the heat shield is attactched. Looking in my stock engine, theres plenty of space for that up in there. Only prob is its not legal in Calif...F***!

also I used to have a 07 with 20s and they rubbed like crazy especially if someone was sitting in the back. But later i found out it had been in an accident and had suspension damage so that may have been the issue... how are yours with rubbing?

sick car man that is awesome

My Reply
I did have the ebay one on first, my pcm was exposed to the heat and that isn't good here in arizona cause it is like 109 degrees here in the summer, so the box protects my pcm way better and the cone filter is much bigger than the ebay one, I like this kit way more.
On my wheels and tires they don't rub at all because all I did was go from 17" to 20's and i kept my width the same size as my 17's the only thing I did was a bigger diameter wheel with a low pforile tire, so my tire isn't real thick but its a Z rated 40,000 mile falken tire and I love them, Their great on the road and the traction is really good on the track, My mpg's havn't changed much either I have nitrogen in my tires and a full tank of gas lasts me a week.
I have a 1 inch gap between my tire and wheel well so I can still lower it a inch and it will be fine
