New Air Intake for my 2006 LT3 3.9

Hi ya'll,

I was the guy who posted about the Wizaired for us 3.5/3.9 owners. If you remember I was sent the unit from the 3800 to test fit to my engine. It was not even close. I was told I was going to get continued support from the Wizaired people until we had a well fitting unit. Well I paid my $100 and some odd dollars, emailed the company about the fitment issues, and I never heard anything back from them. I mean nothing !!
So I purchased an intake from eBay to satisfy me need for the Air Intake sound i love so much. I bought it from screenname "insysusa" or something like that.It is the 2 piece unit, because their single pipe unit had the filter a lot closer to the engine andI was of course wooried about excessive heat. This kit really tucks a lot of the filter under thefender bracealmost into the fender area. I know it's not a CAI (yet, as I intend to fabricate a heat shield), but I really think this is the bestI could have done unless I wanted to void the warranty of the $200 dollar K/N FIPK 5.3 unit, andrig it to fit mine. Nothing against those who have done this with the K/N kit but I don't have the money to go that route. Thiskit I bought cost me I believe around $70 with shipping. Iam a very picky person, and I am here to tell you that this is a top quality kit. Very nice chrome plating on the tubing, very well made couplers,a real nice washable filter.(not a K/N, but they do have an option for a K/N for some more $), and top notch instructions. In taking these pictures I realized I installed the MAF backwards. It has done nothing but snow so I hadn't test drove it yet. I did start it after installation to hear it in action and there was no check engine light, however the sensor is backwards.I will fix that tomorrow. By the way, the intake sounds awesome, I mean really mean and throaty.
I also took a picture of the GMPP strut tower brace I installed. I bought the brackets from ZZP and the bars for the front and back from GMpartsdirect.com . It took me longer to clean the sticker residue off the bar from the part number than it actually did to install the bar itself. I am not exagerrating this a bit. I really like the way it helped tighten the front end up. Not a major performance difference, but I have higher hopes for the rear brace. It a little tight in my garage andI could not get far enough away to take a full side shot of the car but i hope you get an idea of what she looks like.

Looks real good does that kit have a spot for the senosr thing you have to plug into the your intake tube or did you have to make one?

Not a bad setup. Can you modify the Wizaired box to fit?

06MCLTZ-The kit comes complete with all bungs welded into place for all sensors.

04Intimidator- That is the exact route I am looking to go with this install.I am not sure if I can use the Wizaired box or not. However if it does or if it doesn't fit, this will soon have some sort of shield. I am not sure if i want to use plexiglass with insulation gluedon the interior, or thin aluminum sheeting with insulation glued to the interior.Do you or anyone else have an opinion as to what the box should be made out of?

Thanks a lot for the replies.

Make sure you let us know how you go about building the box, this is something that I will defiantly look into this summer after Australia.

I'm also interested in your strut braces, where did you get them from? Do you have some closer pictures of where they bolt up? I looked for some a few months ago but never found any.

Godbot- I purchased the strut tower bars from gmperformanceparts.com. I paid $20 some dollars for both the front and rear bars. I also purchased a pair of brackets for this bar at zzperformance.com for $30 some dollars. I will take closer pics for you tomorrow, and post them up ASAP.

I must suck at navigating those sites, do you happen to have some direct links to the bars and brackets handy? Thanks

It's part number 12498648 for the second link. There is no pictures shown.
I originally told you the wrong address for the bars.It is GMPartsdirect.com.

Peace,
Jim
