Need help!
I'm getting an 87 Monte Carlo SS here in a week or so and I'm looking to change out the stock exhaust from the get-go.I just have no idea what's the best set-up (X-pipes or Straight Pipes) 2" or 3" Glasspack or no? Any help is greatly appreciated also sound or video clips would be great Thanks!

Its hard to give suggestions, it all depends on the sound your looking for, glass packs give a crackle sound there is the old style with pockets or straight through if you want to keep some back pressure go for old style. Personally I enjoy glass packs on my cars and the noise they produce. assuming the ss has a 305 I would say dual exhaust 2.5inch pipe with a half foot old style glass pack on each pipe about halfway through the exhaust then tips or your preferd muffler of choice. This is a simple example of what I think would sound good

US 4th gen Monte SS' only came with a 305.
As for what kind of an exhaust setup to go with, I would go to Youtube and search through the videos and find an exhaust system that you like the sound of and then go with that. |
Slight change in plans I'm dropping a Corvette 350 SB In the Monte instead of fooling around with the 305 (Not that I hate the 305) But I'm getting this engine off of a friend for cheap and 120hp increase just from an (affordable) engine swap is ideal to me!

Good to hear. And don't worry about hating on the 305. Everyone knows that they were dogs, lol.
