need a good exhaust sound with power gain

I just bought a couple thrush turbo mufflers. Don't have any more pieces yet. I'd like to get a decent sound without spending an arm n leg. Any other pieces I need or are the mufflers ok by themselves?

what car do you have?

there's like 20 other threads with exhaust talk that you could check out. Youtube will give you your best idea as far as sound goes.

The mufflers will make the most difference in sound aside from deleting the resonators (which sounds like crap if done up with the wrong mufflers). You're not going to get a power gain that the "butt dyno" will notice out of any exhaust system, even if you do headers. However, you should notice a decent increase in fuel mileage (2-3mpg most likely). I don't know how the thrush mufflers sound with the 3800s personally. When you get it put together you should post a sound clip.

assuming he has a 3800 or even a 5th or 6th gen lol

True. I hadn't thought of that. No matter what engine though, the "butt dyno" won't feel a power difference with exhaust. And I've seen plenty of V8s sound like crap when the exhaust wasn't done right. Same rules apply, just the V8s are a little more forgiving as far as sound goes.

yeah, it all depends one the mods on the car too, if I were to do the mods I have planned on stock downpipe and exhaust and then went to 2.5" downpipe all the way back, i'd definitely feel it

i addid glsspacks 2 my car it way fast now n it sound good $15 at jegz

z34phoenix 11-07-2011 12:59 PM

well if it is a 3800 you can copy my set up. Speed daddy headers, 3" to a 2.5" magnflow muffler then 2.5" to a glass pack and then a Y pipe with a diverter fin inside to balance the flow to each tip.

no more like predator. if i were you i do just the mufflers and ubend delete and call it a day. not going to gain any big power with just exhaust.

Do away with catalytic converter if you still have it on vehicle,i know its illegal ;) but its cheapest and fastest way to gain horse power with mufflers you have.Just have to find a shop willing to cut it off for you lol

z34phoenix 11-12-2011 08:17 AM

most shops wont. you could always cut it off yourself and then have a shop weld in a straight pipe?

but on these cars the Cat isnt that restrictive. and if you dont have a programer to tune out the rear O2 code you will be dealing with an SES light all the time... also if you have emissions this wont work either.

it has been said the stock 2.25" exhaust can support up to 300 HP to the ground. if your NA there is gain to be had with a well designed system... deff nothing bigger then 2.5"

the best bang for buck would be like said remove the Ubend and maybe buy a new down pipe from ZZPerformance.com wbodystore.com 3800performance.com intense-racing.com any one of these will have it if you have the 3800. if you dont have a 3800 your options are limited as is the ease of getting more power.

by the way... the radar always gets a false alarm at that intersection. walgreens doors trip it. but the police radar is a diff band and has a diff tone... but my autobot does fight with the decepticon S10 in my parking lot on occasion.
