Cut the mufflers off lol

Or get an electric exhaust cutout ftw

Put on a set of HEADER's & remove "Y" pipe to true duals..
I do like the 40 series Flowmaster sound...

Good luck & let us know what you decide...

Def get headers first. I had an '88 Chevy Truck with the 305, headers and glasspacks with side exhaust, sounded awesome.

i dont think cherry bombs will make it louder but done quote me on that i had a cherry bomb on my 99 ram 1500 with a 318 v8 and it was not that loud had a nice rumble to it but not loud i put on a flowmaster 40 series with no cats that comes out in front of my rear tire and its much ouder. not sure if that helps any because i havent put cherry bombs on manyt hings only my truck and when i had my '01 sunfire i did.

Those Flowmasters should be plenty loud if you run a true dual exhaust through two of them. I'd go that route first and see if you like it. You can add headers or change the mufflers later if you are still not happy with the sound of the dual exhaust, but I would start with that. I love the sound of Flowmasters. Have them on my 69 Camaro. They get loud when your on the gas, have a nice low sound when your cruising. I have Borla's on my Trans Am and I hate the sound - wimpy. The Borlas look real pretty but sound like crap. I really need to get rid of them.

On my '86, I set up and run the 40's Flowmaster 3 chamber P/N: FLO-942541 with true dual 2 1/2' exhaust, no cross over with TPS headers. It is sweet. Especially when I get on it. It will turn heads.
With a stock 305, this will help with a nice deep throaty sound. But what makes for the true deep sound is directly related to increased HP.....
Heads, CAM, compression and internal engine mods is where it is at....

i was thinkin of doing a true dual with 2 1/2 borla pipes with 2 7/8x3 3/8 intercooled square angle cut tips, i do want to keep cat though but it occoured to me that i never thought about the exhaust manifold, will i have space for a set of headers to do a true dual set up since the engine is in there side ways i assume, i figure this was the best place since i'm not really tryin to start a new thread

Op if your running 2.25 piping and stock manifolds with no cat. switch to a long tube set of headers (preferably small tubes 1 5/8th so you dont kill what little torque you make.) run 2.5 inch piping with no cats straight back, i believe flowmaster now makes a muffler louder than the 40s. the set up i just posted is pretty much what i run on my 80 and not many people would say that car isnt loud enough. 1kool86 was also correct heads, cam, compression are all going to effect the sound of the car. you can also look into flowtech warlock mufflers that have the caps that bypass the mufflers. essentially its a muffler with a cutout.

personally im not a fan of being loud unless the car can back it up, and with the factory 305 being what it is, and having no lope to the cam most probably will fool no one but to each there own. also the gen one small block really doesnt sound good at all straight piped, or open header. just a ton of noise.

Jbob true duals have been done. i dont recall if it was done with the factory manifolds, or headers. it was retarded, and unnecessary. run headers with the single exhaust with a y and a pair of mufflers, and a resonator. i dont know what motor is in your car, but either way none of the v6s sound nice. the last thing i would want to do is straight pipe one.
