LS INTAKE MODS???

OK GANG; Here's my question. Money's tight, as I just bought the Monte. It's an 02, and Galaxy silver with the 3.4. would just a K&N filter help much or shoud I wait and get the complete intake tube ect. If so, what do you guys recommend? Performance isn't everything, but it sure is FUN! Pat

Wanna do it cheap? Replace the factory filter with a K&N and gut your factory air box. I am not sure of the 3.4L airbox configuration but I could not imaging it would be much different than the 3.8L. I opened my box and started removing plastic with a Roto Zip to give the filter more contact with air flow.

yes one way is to gutt your air box. the other is to build your own Fender well intake. like i did!
on my Website i have a writeup and pictures on how to do this. i would not recomend just putting the filter on the MAF sensor and leaving the filter unprotected in the engine bay. the heat from the engine will make you loose power, even though you will gain more air flow.

one cheep mod is to bypass the Throtle body coolent hose. if you are in a some what warm climate this is good but if you are above the snow belt, i wouldnt recomend this. the hose is designed to pass warm (hot) engine coolent thru the TB to prevent ice from freezing the butterfly valve and making it stick. i live in florida so this was an easy and good mod to do.

also you could remove any of your factory tubes that have the ripples in them and get tubes that are smooth. like al tubing or even pvc. if you arent going to get a heat resistant coating, i would suggest against al tube cause of heat soak. the hotter the intake air the more power you loose. if you got any ?'s let me know
