Help needed with Edelbrock Air Filter on a 1977 305 Motor
 

So I went into AutoZone, and after entering I saw the two style edelbrock air filters. The circular one and the triangular one with the vents. I felt like a kid in Christmas, I didn't know which to choose but when I brought it to the counter and spoke to the parts specialist about the installation he said I couldn't use it. The two lines that are going into the base of my factory set up are both needed for the motors operations were his exact words, is this true? I can't use the cool looking edelbrock chrome air filters because of these lines? I don't think it's true because I have seen so many 350's sporting them. Please someone shed me some light on this because I'm pretty bummed out about it. On a side note, is it true that these things increase horse power/efficiency?

Could you take a pic of your carb? trying to figure out what he was talking about?!

It's not the carb, it's on what holds the stock air filter, that huge metal disc thing. There's a part of it that has two lines. one going into the part that is a like vent then another going into the base of the disc. I don't know the name of it, all I can do is describe it. I would take a picture of it, but it's already really dark outside. =|

I think those are vacuum lines, and you do need that, however sometimes after market filters have adapters for those hoses. Send a pic up when you can for a better look. I've put after market filters on every car I had except for the Monte and my Blazer, just gotta make sure to reroute the vacuum lines.

They must be vacuum lines, I just wish I knew where to reroute them to.. There's one that is like steel then there's a thin one that is rubber. I really don't know how I'm supposed to reroute them man. I'm hearing these filters add some performance too.

One should be from the PCV valve and go into the side of the air filter housing to a filter. The other may be a vacuum line, if so you could just get a breather that goes into the valve cover and cap the vacuum line. Keep in mind this is all part of the emissions system and may cause you to fail if your state does testing. Also this is all just from memory I havent been under the hood of a 1977 car in 10 years

Would it reduce performance by doing this? So you're pretty much saying to put two filters in each of the lines and problem solved? What about the steel one that seems to be stuck there, and as for the rubber line it seems to be connected to something. It's all really confusing, but I am frustrated because I am more than certain there's a way to do it.

My dreams seem to be crushed because of GM's stupid 305 motor set up in 1977... :( I really don't know how I would go about setting it up. :\

show us a pic of what lines you are talking about if the are vacume line plug them and toss on the air cleaner, don't expect much of a increase of either power maybe a hair of effiniancy
