Help me wire my electric radiator fan!!!
 

I am going to be replacing my clutch fan with an electric one speed radiator fan in my 84 for racing. This fan will be attached to a toggle on my dash so I can decide when I want the fan on.
I have a simple on/off 20 amp toggle (no light)
Items I have:
1 fan with one black and one red wire
3 rolls of 14 ga wiring (red, black, yellow)
In-line blade fuse holder
assortment of connectors (butt end, blade, etc)
Fan mounting hardware
wire crimper/snips


I have attached a simple unfinished diagram. Can you electrically competent people mark up my diagram so I know how to hook this up? WAY too may options out there on the internet wanting to run thermostat, relays, etc. I just want this simple and I am electrically challenged!!!:rotfl:

I am actually going to try this wiring set up but instead of coming off the battery, I will be coming off the fuse box.

It is best to have it fuse protected and that is correct to use the fuse box on the car. There might be some hot zones on the fuse box that are just blank and you can test them with a light tester screwdriver. Then just toggle the thing I think you maybe able to get a toggle that lights up or has a bulb that comes with the mounting. That way you can tell if it has power to it. If I was there I would help you out but I am home now for a spell. So maybe I can work on the Monte after I get all the stuff on the list done for the house.:whatdidimiss:The cat is just now thinking he recognizes me?!?!:rotfl: The 85 Monte I had the Clutch fan was always an issue, If I recall it had an extended shaft and that really stressed that area, I replace the rebuilt one 2 times one Month till if finally was a good one.

Oh yes it will be fuse protected....I will have an inline fuse between the fuse box and toggle.

Well, I did the running of wires today and wires run through the firewall. Hole drilled in the dash for the switch. Switch is wired up and in the dash with an in-line fuse between the switch and the fusebox. Only thing left to do is actually hook it to the fuse box.
So what I have is:
Red and black running from fan through the firewall.
Black wire from fan to switch
Red wire (from fan) hanging around waiting for me to hook it to fusebox...LOL
Yellow wire waiting to go from switch to fusebox (this wire has the in-line fuse)
OMG I feel like a big chicken!!!! It is sitting there for me to hook up to power but I packed up my stuff and stopped working on it for the day. Lack of confidence and/or fear of fire I guess!!! LOL
