Headers on a n/a 3800?
 

I found a local guy selling a set of TOG headers for listed as a Grand Prix L67, but would they help much on a n/a 3800? They look fairly new and he claims they only have 100 miles on them for $600.


I've been considering the top swap lately and thought the headers would be great to have now for the conversion later on.

$600 isn't a super smoking deal on them since they're only like $750 new. Add to that all of the discount headers (ssac, speed daddy, xs power, etc etc) that are half that price and do the same thing, and I'd have a hard time spending that much on used togs. I want to say I only spent $450 or so on used, coated tog extremes.

The other thing to keep in mind is that the na, fwd power record for 3800s isnt much over 200 whp with numerous mods including headers, so you can see there just isn't much power gain to be had by doing na mods.


If you're serious about a top swap, put that $600 towards that project instead. I'd imagine you could buy the majority of the parts you need for $600. Even the shops that sell kits are just over $1k. A top swap will instantly put you right around 200 whp- a lot better gain than oversized headers on an NA engine.

Or find a rotted out donor car with a good L67 drivetrain and do a complete swap instead. Food for thought.
