Free homemade shart ram intake

I got all the parts for free I just had to cut and fab some pieces. Not bad for free parts. I can feel a small difference on low end but high end is where I really feel it.

What did you have to do custom.

That's a cute looking WAI (warm air intake).

You would get even better performance if you were to use a larger tube between the TB and the filter, and extend it to the fenderwell, and block off the fenderwell, so it only pulls in cold air. Colder air is more dense, and will give you better performance.

The intake was originally for a dodge ram so I had to cut the piping down so it would work in the monte.
I actually read somewhere that a shorter intake is better than a CAI because of the distance the air has to travel to get to the throttle body, but it is staying pretty cool right now. I drove for about an hour then popped the hood and felt the piping and it was pretty cold.

If it's staying cold, that's ok for now, because it's winter, but come spring/summer, you'll notice a big loss in performance.

I agree that the longer the pipe, and the more bends you have, the more resistance there is for the engine to suck in the air. That's why I suggest to run a straight tube with no bends directly towards the fenderwell, but not down into the fenderwell, just towards it, and block it off with a home depot roof flashing, cut to block the filter off from the engine bay, so all you do is suck in cold air from the fender area.

If you must keep the pipe short, eliminate the 90* bend you have, make it a bigger pipe to reduce restriction, and get a boxed CAI so it's blocked off from the engine bay.

It looks great though.. and if that's all you care about, then power to ya.... I'm more about performance, as you may have already guessed. :-)

Yeah im about perfromance also, but have no money so this will have to do until I am able to get something else. I am planning on doing what you were talking about when I am able to get some more parts.
