Do tips affect sound?

For x-mas I'm getting some certificates to summit/jegs so I'm finally gonna be able to get the exhaust I want, Flowmaster 40s. My question is about exhaust tips. Do they affect the sound of the system at all? I already have aftermarket tips I like (from PO, so Im not sure of brand) so Im not too much in the market for new ones, though I might eventually consider it.

They sometimes can a tiny bit, barely noticable though... Kind of depends on the width and the fact if they are rolled or not.

Looking For ideas and recommendations

Guys,

All stock 06 SS right now, stored away and looking to update the muffler system and add a btr air induction system (K&N etc.). I talked to a local mechanic, he suggested removing the resonator and adding better muf's....need some help here....

They will effect sound a little. When I first did my exhaust, I had single exit tips that were 2 1/4" exit. I eventually added dual 3" exit tips and the sound was amplified a little. No louder, just kinda like talking through a funnel as compared to talking through a paper tube, you know what I mean?

06MCSS, please open a new thread with your question. Please do not use someone else's thread to ask your own question. It steers the thread away from the original topic and detracts from having the original question answered. Thanks.

Really? The forum is "Headers, Intake & Exhaust"....now I know why there is so much redundancy on this site....done a search lately...and it seemed as if the question was answered between a couple users.

No problem my man, thanks for the boot.

Yes, I know what forum this is. Is the topic redundant? Maybe, but he still has the right to ask his question without his thread being hijacked. Thank you for sharing your views on the site and thank you for moving your question as I asked.

Yes, tips change sound drastically. I've had three different tips on my Flowmaster Deltaflow 40 muffler. The muffler itself is 3", so I put a 3" tip on it, sounded fair. Then a dual tip, which made it MUCH quieter. Now I have a 4" single tip, and it sounds great. Pretty loud too. Now with no tip... That sucker is LOUD.
