Do or Don't? HV3

I am looking at putting in an HV3. I have not heard any horror stories. I've only seen a couple glory stories.

What's YOUR opinion? :)

I'm going to say that as someone who has ran both an HV3 and an empty UIM, I think in the end the empty UIM is the better deal. Unfortunately, I haven't seen any conclusive data on that, but imo you will be happy with the UIM empty.

I threw an HV3 in with a host of other mods. As I understand, it is not meant to be used by itself to get the most "bang for the buck". From what I understand, it's meant to go with the ZZP ER Rockers and a High Velocity Throttle Body..... I have the ER Rockers, but I'm running a modified L67 throttle body.

And by empty, you mean as stock, yes? Or do you mean gutting it somehow? :)

Did you notice the gain they talk about on their website?

I mean, it seems to be a major price for a piece of rubber plastic

Save your money and buy some headers. Then you can at least feel/hear the difference. Not to mention they look better then a piece of plastic, that you can't see.

As Maniac said, they're meant to do with other mods. Headers would help take advantage of it a little better as well. I know several people on GPONA who have put them and combined with their other mods perform nicely. They're only meant for the N/A motors though. There are very few mods, if any, that when applied alone will be felt by the "butt dyno" on an N/A motor though. This includes headers IMO.

FYI - If anyone is looking to buy a HV3 from ZZP, black friday (day after Thanksgiving) is the best time to do that. This year and last year they offered significant discounts on it.

Also, I know it seems expensive for a block of silicon or plastic, but keep in mind how much it cost them in R&D to figure it out to what it is now. It's HV3 because they had an HV1 and an HV2 at some point, so even after they said "Hey, I think this makes a sweet change, we should offer it as a product on our sight" they still found reason to change it. That R&D was someone probably making the original one by hand, installing it, dyno testing it, track testing it, etc.

And because it's probably super cheap to mass produce, this would be why they probably offer huge sales on it at LEAST once a year.

^^^what he said. R&D for any car mods is gonna cost a nice chunk of change. That's why new parts typically cost a lot at first and slowly come down in cost as the R&D is paid for and they start R&D on the next product.

No actually. The factory includes an insert already in the UIM, but you have to remove that to install the HV3. You can kind of see it on my Cardomain here: http://www.cardomain.com/ride/205587...e-carlo/page-5 (about 10 or 11 pics down).

What I'm saying is, do all the work in my Cardomain and then just remove the insert. From what I hear, the gains are comparable.
