Cutting the Cats?

Alright... I know their good for emissions and all... and I hear thats waht makes the cars sound a bit higher pitched than they shoudl at high rpm's. So I'm thinking about just eliminating it all together and not get a high flow cat. However, is there anything you can do to fool the computer into thinking their is a cat? I know you can clear the code.... but can you put a rink or something on the sensor to fool it?>

RE: Cutting the Cats?

Hi `Duane,
I searched my links for an answer, but could not
find one that applies to the Monte Carlo.
I know that I"ve read where a Monte Carlo Owner
has done this, but I can't locate it : (
I did find this article interesting on cat's.
I hope that one of our expert members can post some
information on your subject thread. :D
The below linkmay be worth a read. It has some interesting
information.

RE: Cutting the Cats?

The thing you need iscalled an O2 simulator:

Obviously you'll still fail visual inspection. Thats why some people take a stock cat and gut the inside- and weld it back in- just in case a cop happens to check (its still illegal to remove, even if you don't have emission testing).

But the O2 sim will keep the code from appearing. If you send your pcm in (or know someone with HPT/PT) they can delete the codes so it never even checks for it. Thats the way I did it- justremoved the codes completely, and then I removed the wiring from my engine harness when I did my swap to clean it up.

edit- if you decide to just turn the codes off permanently- these are the most likely ones you'll have to get rid of:

P0140
P0141
P0420

RE: Cutting the Cats?

I strongly recommend you run a cat. It's better for the enrivonment. We're already bad enough, we don't need to kick mother nature when she's already down.
