Cold Air Intake questions
Hey everyone. I have a couple questions on cai's and I didn't see a thread deicated to cai's in general.
First, what kind do you recommend? Second, I have heard that if you put the cai in a certain place that it will take water in and flood the engine. Now I know that can happen but I didn't know where that certain spot is. Third, should I even get one because my Monte is my daily driver and if I can't install it without the possibility of flooding the engine then I'm not going to get it. P.S. I have the 3.8 liter engine. Thanks! :) |
Cold Air Inductions makes a great CAI. It keeps the intake temps alot lower than the open style of a K&N.
I have had a CAI on most all of my cars and never had trouble with water. The kits you can buy has the air filter behind the headlight so you would have to run through alot of water to flood it. |
We have tons of threads, and an intake section. We talk about this topic at least once a week ;)
I prefer the Wizaired system for the 3.8L. What you are hearing about flooding the engine is when people make their own FWI and they put the filter in the fender without any guard on it from the wheel well. This just allows the filter to suck in water |
I 2nd the Wizaired best for the money too.

I guess I'm the odd man out on this one. Prior to purchasing a CAI I inquired about the Wizaired via email (twice as a matter of fact) regarding the R&D and performance claims but never got a reply to my inquiries. Cold Air Inductions on the other hand was more than happy to answer my questions, so I purchased their CAI. I am quite pleased with it and also their customer service, so I would recommend them to anyone interested in getting a CAI. Don't bother with K&N or any similar brand where the filter is exposed to underhood heat. They aren't worth the money and can actually decrease your performance because they draw in heated air instead of cold air.

I have a K&N and wish I had a wizaired xD

I like the CAI from cold air inductions......

I have the Wiz-aired CAI. Basically they're all competively equal to one another. Just get the one that you can afford and like the set up. I wouldn't recommend K&N system. It still alows to much hot air into the air flow. The filters are good just not the system. I have a "How to....." on installing the Wiz-Aired system.
