COLD AIR INTAKE

I installed the cold air intake myself and it was easy until I hooked up the k&n conne through the box to the mas air flow sensor, i had to go buy a 4" to 3.5" coupler and put that between the mass air flow sensor and the air filter. then just hook the hose from the throttle body to the mass air fow sensor and I was done. The box is self explanatory with its instructions. This does work for a 3.9 liter 2006 to 2008 monte carlo. You just need a coupler by spectre or some other manufacturer. I get a smooth ride when stepping on the acceleration and its a little quicker and sounds a little better. I like it and it looks great under the hood.

RE: COLD AIR INTAKE

I GOT MY INTAKE FROM MPD INC AND IT TOOK TWO WEEKS TO BE DELIVERED AND IT WAS $300 and the spectre coupler was $12.00 dollars, when i pulled the cheap kit offmy intake it was really warm, and when i touch the air box aluminum side much cooler, don't buy the cheap kit from ebay. if i didn't do this buy the summer my computer for my car was exposed to too much heat and i was drawing too much heat into my air intake too. the new and improved way, truley a cold air intake and its insulate on the inside of the box on all three sides except th lid so this helps make it keep cool as well. Great product 3.9 liter montes you can do it, and it was a fun weekend afternoon project.

I just have an open conical (spelling) filter on mine, an eBay special that I'll probably fab a box up for it myself. We'll see though...At first the filter pointed in toward the motor, (like on couch's car, we have the same intake), and I didn't like that so I switched the filter and fittings to the other end of the tube and it is pointing out now, which is better for the filter anyway. It does its job. :o)

rysz34... look at my website, you can pretty much copy my FWI intake design cause our engine bays are the same design.

damn, over $300 for an intake? I guess if you got it like that you can do that..........I definitely don't got it like that.

Hey mavrickf1613, Im thinking of getting this intake in a couple of weeks. How do you like it so far? Any problems that have come up since you installed it? Thanks for any info you can send my way.

Mike

RE: COLD AIR INTAKE

I like this intake alot, better throttle response and it does make the air cooler because the inside of the box is insulated and I have had no problems, I raced at the drag strip and my Intake is all intact, I have had no problems, This isn't a hard kit to install either, Just remember if you install this on a 3.9 engine you will need a 4 inch to 3.5 inch coupler to connect the air filter to the mass air flow sensor.

I like it and recommend it

RE: COLD AIR INTAKE

Mavrick,
I installed my CAI intake over the weekend and I didnt have to use a reducer on my installation. The supplied filter fit right over the MAF. I did notice that the intake tube and the hole for the filter in the box did not lineup very well and there is a slight pull of the upper intake hose. I believe that a 3.5" piece of 22 degree bent tubing could remedy this little problem. How did you get yours to lineup so nicely?

Otherwise, I am very happy with the way this turned out and performs.

Mike

RE: COLD AIR INTAKE

AWESOME MAN,

I lined it up by angle-ing the air filter to the maf sensor connected to the hose, it took some time and patience. you might just need a coupler that will give you the space to line up better. i just angled the air filter put the coupler over it and tightend it down and connected the mass air flow sensor to the other end of the coupler. take a picture and email it to me

mavrickf1613@yahoo.com

i will take a look and see how yours looks. it just takes some playing around with to line it up. If I see a picture might give me a better idead where your at.

Cool mod and way to go with it.

RE: COLD AIR INTAKE

was the 1st one you put in a cheap ebay one? Basically would the insulation box be necessary if you didnt have a cheap one is what im windering...i have the same 06 3.9L and I wanna get a cold air intake

looking at KN's theirs seems to have a heat shield on it already <http://www.knfilters.com/search/appsearch.aspx> u gotta look at the 5.3L version, then read the general description and it says the heat shield is attactched. Looking in my stock engine, theres plenty of space for that up in there. Only prob is its not legal in Calif...F***!

also I used to have a 07 with 20s and they rubbed like crazy especially if someone was sitting in the back. But later i found out it had been in an accident and had suspension damage so that may have been the issue... how are yours with rubbing?

sick car man that is awesome
