Cleaning TB

Anyone ever cleaned a 7th Gen TB? Or is 6th and 7th gen TB cleaning comparable? I cleaned my MAF , so might as well clean my TB

The_Maniac 01-13-2014 10:28 AM

I can't speak to cleaning the t-body on a 7th gen, but I would image it's worth pulling off and checking/cleaning.

How do you clean yours on the TB on the 6th gen? Just bolt off and spray with MAF cleaner?

ChibiBlackSheep 01-13-2014 10:51 AM

The same company that makes the MAF spray, also makes a TB cleaning spray. I have used that, and I have used seafoam deep creep successfully to clean my TB

How does the seafoam method work? I was interested in that was well if youd like to enlighten my young mind?

The_Maniac 01-13-2014 12:13 PM

If I recall the Seafoam method is to unhook a vac line and use it to such Seafoam through the vac system of the engine (Chibi can correct me if I'm wrong).

For as much car work as I've done and on high miles cars, I have NEVER done that one....

As for cleaning the TB, yeah, just unbolt it, remove sensors like the MAF, use Carb Cleaner spray. You may also want to make use of a brash wire brush of a cheap/old tooth brush. Ideally, getting it to shine like new is great, but if that does not work, getting most the gunk off is a huge improvement.

You could also try Berryman's ChemDip (sold in a gallon paint can). Remove all sensors and electronics from the TB, dip it in that stuff and should come out like new (a neighbor did that on his 3800 TB and I thought he replaced it). But double check if it is appropriate for rubber seals (as the TB shaft has a rubber seal in it).

Will do boss! Probably will do that this weekend or maybe today, its not too bad out.

Seafoam deep creep is actually a spray, it works just like the. Maf cleaner but is made to get rid of the carbon buildup.

@Hiroska - If you feel like taking pics, could do a write up on cleaning a t-body on a v8 FWD :)

Hiroska 01-13-2014 04:38 PM

Will do . Ill be happy to contribute to our community! I'll also do a write up on the door acurator due to seeing some members having issues with that.
