catalytic converter

Does the removal of the catalytic converter affect any of the carburetor functions on my original 1986 Monte Carlo SS?

I dont why it would,i've never heard of it affecting an SS or Non SS Monte

The cat will affect any emissions testing if you have that in your area but other than that no.

Unless its OBD2 than it won't affect anything but emissions my 94 Z28 ran better without cats

Anymore, there are enough cats that are available in the aftermarket that have little restriction that the benefits (unless you have an incredibly fast car) are just not there to removing the cats. Yeah, the older cats are terribly restrictive, but they just simply are not anymore. Unless you're pushing out a crap ton of power, it's just simply not worth it.

OBD2 started in 1996 so that's not an issue, if it still needs emissions testing where you live that affect lots. And if your car has an air pump you need to remove the manifolds with the air injection lines to get the most benifits of doing it. They are very restrictive. Also remove the air pump from the engine to save weight and belt driven hp losses.
